PTA Leadership Meeting  – February 3, 2022

Attendees: Janel Chin, Dana Hupp, Shannon Murphy, Melody Nelsen, Sarah Smith, Pam Wright

4:30 p.m. – Welcome, Call for other items and Principal/Teacher Updates

4:35 p.m. – Committee Updates Reports

  • MCT Update
  • Battle of the Books, next ‘battle’ is at the end of the month
  • ROC – further discussion of spending $2,284 neighborhood grant on tables, 8 tables would be ideal if possible (that would be roughly $3300).  Thinking about purchasing four tables for starters to see how those fit in the space.  When we work on making those tables and sanding and staining and finishing them, we would need to work on buddy bench at same time (needs sanding/staining).
  • Leadership recruitment for 2022-23 school year

4:45 p.m. – Presentation of Standing Rules for adoption

4:50 p.m. – Discussion of proposed events/fundraisers in the spring of 2022

  – Fun Run is scheduled for Thursday June 9th and is usually preceded by a running club (tentatively planned for May 2022) prior to 2020 & 21 COVID cancellations running club was held on Tuesday and Thursdays in May and the first part of June both before school and during afternoon recesses. Dana will talk to the company (boosterthon) and she’ll talk to Jess Larsen to see if she wants to do fun run or spring auction (Dana will talk to Molly Cottrell too).  Anticipate needing approx 20 volunteer parents

– Students could be asked to gather donations in April to support their efforts running in May and June

– Past coordinators have led students through some warm-up drills followed by a short run/walk on the trails out by the PEAS farm and/or around the school yard.

– Bike rodeo event has been held at RE in conjunction with Parks n’ Rec, Missoula In Motion and other community partners who may be willing to be involved and potentially add a fundraising element.

– Student run MADE Fair: Katelyn Scholle and Stacy Jehle have been working with a group of 5th graders who want to hold a MADE Fair at RE this spring. They are hoping to find a volunteer willing to help guide the students in putting this event on.  (making a difference everyday).  Decided to approve a no interest loan to made fair club.  If they make it back, okay.  If they don’t make it back, loan will be forgiven.  Need volunteers for Thursday at lunch during their made fair

– School supplies as a fundraising option that Jen Sheldon is exploring

5:00 p.m. – Health and Safety Discussion Items:

  1. How can we support teachers weathering absences both COVID and non-COVID related this winter?
  2. How can we support increased vaccination rates in our school community?
